Chief of Pediatric Bioethics Division and Center for Pediatric Bioethics

Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center and the Department of Pediatrics, University of Washington, are proud to announce the development of a new Division of Bioethics within the Department and a new Center for Pediatric Bioethics within Children's Hospital. We seek an individual to serve as the first Division Chief and Director of the Center for Pediatric Bioethics. Children's has committed substantial start-up funding and received federal funds to establish the program. This program will be the first of its kind and a critical component of the research vision and expansion of research programs at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center.

The Center will lead hospital, departmental and university-wide efforts in research, teaching, clinical consultation and advocacy in the area of pediatric bioethics. The successful candidate must have the qualities and communication skills necessary to develop this important program to international prominence.

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in a discipline relevant to bioethics (e.g. MD, PhD, DSW, JD, ThD) and have an established scholarly record. Familiarity with pediatrics and the special challenges of ethical issues facing this population is highly encouraged. Teaching and administrative experience are important qualifications for this individual. Success in extramural funding will be an important consideration. The position will include teaching obligations and will be appointed at the Associate Professor or Professor level, Research Associate Professor or Research Professor level depending on scholarly accomplishments and experience. We anticipate the successful candidate will qualify for an adjunct appointment at the same level in the University of Washington Department of Medical History and Ethics.
