Wayne A. Keown is a Senior Partner in the Intellectual Property and Litigation Departments of Hale and Dorr LLP. Dr. Keown focuses his practice primarily in the biotechnology and chemistry areas. He is involved in patent litigation, as well as client advising, due diligence and all aspects of patent prosecution.
Dr. Keown has experience in patent litigation involving complex biotechnology subject matter. He has worked extensively in patent prosecution in the biotechnology and chemistry areas and in corporate and investor patent due diligence undertakings. He has also been involved in the preparation of patentability and patent infringement and patent validity opinions, and in patent interference proceedings.
Dr. Keown received a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from Indiana University in 1984. He earned his Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Illinois in 1989 and received his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois in 1992. He is admitted to practice in the state and federal district courts in Massachusetts and Illinois, and has been registered in the US Patent and Trademark Office since 1989.
Before joining Hale and Dorr, Dr. Keown was with the law firm of Allegretti
& Witcoff in Chicago and Boston and was Patent Counsel for Hybridon, Inc., an
antisense technology company in Worcester, Massachusetts.
