Jean Lazarus, M.S.N., Ed.D. is an independent nurse researcher, recently retired from the Alabama Board of Nursing as a consultant in nursing education and research. She now consults for the Board of Nursing through the Advisory Council on Research. Additionally, she works with the Montgomery-based First Quality HealthCare USA in grants and projects design. Her research has spanned a number of regulatory issues such as case law and continuing education, nursing competence, professional discipline and chemical dependency, health care and consumer expectations of nurses and accountability of regulatory agencies. Past professional endeavors include serving as the administrator of nursing education programs for Michigan Technological University and Troy State University. Dr. Lazarus has also held the position as the administrator of patient care services for the Daughters of Charity (St. Margaret's Hospital) and Humana Hospital during their tenure in Montgomery. She holds the Bachelors and Master of Science Degrees in Nursing from the University of Alabama, the Education Specialist Degree in educational administration from Troy State University and the Doctor of Education Degree from Auburn University.
